AddThis – simple sharing and bookmarking button

Bookmark and Share
If you want to encourage your users to bookmark or share your site, then put an AddThis button on it. It enables your users to share your site via Twitter, Digg, MySpace, Facebook etc, and you don’t even need to sign up to get your button code.
More info at AddThis.com.

My favourite Firefox addon

Marc Gueury’s HTML Validator addon for Firefox is an incredibly useful tool for anyone wanting to write valid HTML (and that should be all of us!). The HTML Validator addon displays the number of errors on an HTML page in the status bar of your Firefox window, you can then simply click the HTML Validator icon to see detailed information about each error – including which line the error is on, and a basic suggestion on how to fix it.
Get it here.

Autoplay embedded YouTube videos

Here’s a simple little tip to make embedded YouTube videos autoplay – simply add “&autoplay=1″ after the video ID in the embed code. Using autoplay is a really good idea if you’ve got YouTube videos on your landing pages – it immediately engages your audience and keeps them focussed on your sales pitch. More info on using autoplay here.

Error sending out-of-band password

“Error sending out-of-band password”. This is why I hate using third parties. Goodbye Vidoop.

R.I.P Netdisaster

Netdisaster has been taken offline. Netdisaster was a brilliant site that enabled users to deface any site on the internet – not by hacking or editing the code, but by simply displaying various “disasters” over the top of it (e.g cow poo, chainsaws, crawling babies, vomit, UFOs etc). It was silly and childish, but it was also fun, and more importantly – it was totally harmless. But eBay, and to a lesser extent Yahoo, didn’t see the joke, and classified it all as a phishing attempt – which eventually forced the creator of Netdisaster to take the site offline. Read more about it here.
Although it’s not as much fun as defacing other people’s websites, Netdisaster still offer an ‘opt in’ disaster service – click the cow (above) for an example.

Firefox Personas

I’ve just started using Firefox Personas – they’re a quick and simple way to customize the look of Firefox, and because they’re just a header image and a footer image, they’re incredibly easy to make. Get the Firefox addon here, and read a quick tutorial on how to create your own Personas here.
