If you want something smaller and lighter than Photoshop to use on your subnotebook (e.g Eee PC), or on your PortableApps USB stick, then you’ve probably already tried GIMP. It’s open source, extremely powerful, and in my opinion, has one of the worst GUIs I’ve ever seen – which is made even worse if you’re working on a 9 inch (or smaller) screen. Which is why I’ve been using
PhotoFiltre instead.
Why PhotoFiltre?
It’s small (1.6MB), fast, and intuitive. PhotoFiltre has a very simple GUI, starts up in about 1 second, and uses minimal system resources when running. And although it doesn’t support layers, I rarely need to use them when working on my Eee PC. If I need to do anything involving layers, it can generally wait until I get back to Photoshop on my desktop computer.
PhotoFiltre is free, and is available
here.
PhotoFiltre is a complete image retouching program. It allows you to do simple or advanced adjustments to an image and apply a vast range of filters on it. It is simple and intuitive to use, and has an easy learning curve. The toolbar, giving you access to the standard filters with just a few clicks, gives PhotoFiltre a robust look.
